Security Guard Duties
Being aware of what is required of a security guard and all of the usual Security Guard Duties will help you get an edge when in the interview and on the job. Treating the job professionally and seeing your tasks as duties will help you better understand that security guard work is very stop and go with little room for error. Here are a few Security Guard Duties that most companies require of their guards:
Foot Patrol
The #1 duty required of all security guards is the task of doing a foot patrol. A foot patrol is a walk around of a static site and observing or removing trespassers if that is required. Being able to walk for long periods of time is usually required and that is why having good shoes is important.
Situation Defusal
Sometimes if you are working in a high scale location then you will usually never have to place your hands on someone or intimidate. You will be required to diffuse locations with as little commotion as possible. Imagine working at a classical music hall and people are arguing over who a seat belongs to, you will usually be the first employee to get to the situation before a manager can solve the problem. Diffusing situations is one of the main duties that you will be required to do.
Report Writing
Most security guard companies require security guards to write reports for every shift. Either the report will be done hourly or whenever a patrol is done. It is sometimes in a notepad or a sheet provided by the company. Being a bouncer is NOT being a security guard and security guards are required to report. Security guard reports usually are not required to be in perfect writing, as a security guard is only there to be a witness and not be a judge of a situation. Security Guard reports are just extra evidence when a crime goes to court.
